Another important rule is that the number of bets must be greater than or equal to the number of cards in hand each round – in other words, every trick must be accounted for by a bet. If two people tie for highest bet, whichever player bet it first gets to call trump. Betting starts with the person to the left of the dealer. The person who bets the highest (thinks they will win the most tricks) gets to call trump. In a nutshell, each player has to take a guess as to how many of the tricks they’ll win in the coming round. Trump is decided through the placing of “bets” before each round. Any trump card is higher in value than a non-trump card the two of the trump suit is worth more than the ace of a non-trump suit. The ace of trump is the highest value card in the entire game.

The caveat to this rule is that there is a trump suit, which changes every round. The ace is the highest value card in any given suit. Each player plays one card from their hand per trick the player with the highest value card wins the trick. The number of tricks in a round is equal to the number of cards in the players’ starting hands. Points are scored by winning “tricks,” similar to Euchre. At the end of each round, the number of cards is adjusted: Hand sizes decrease down to a single card, then increase back up to eight cards. Players begin the game with a hand of eight cards.
